PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ROMAN T. STELMORE, JR.

CITATION:

Private First Class Roman T. Stelmore, Jr., 36672217, Medical Department, Medical Detachment, 409th Infantry Regiment. For heroism in action. During the daylight hours of 18 December 1944, in the vicinity of * * * , France, Private Stelmore, a medical aid man attached to Company “K”, was accompanying his unit in the attack, when an intense enemy artillery barrage opened up seriously wounding a comrade. Although artillery shells were bursting all about him, he courageously crawled to the wounded man. While administering first aid he also was wounded by the severity of the enemy fire, but, showing great devotion to duty, remained until his comrade had received all possible aid. Only then would he submit to aid himself. By his bravery under fire and utter disregard for his safety, the life of his seriously wounded comrade was saved. Residence: Chicago, Illinois.

Born 30 June 1923… Killed 15 February 1945… Interred Epinal American Cemetery and Memorial in Lorraine, France.
