On page two, the number of bombers in England has doubled since March and will double again by the fall. Meanwhile to the south, the Army Air Force is pounding the island of Pantelleria, roughly halfway between Tunisia and Sicily… Sports section begins on page 16 and says that the Cubs, who are 12-1/2 games back of the Cardinals, can’t even beat the Great Lakes Navy squad. In fact this is the second time this week they lost to the Bluejackets. But in the Cubs’ defense, pretty about all of Mickey Cochrane’s team of sailors played pro ball or will after the war.
