The British Supermarine Spitfire was perhaps the most-beautiful military aircraft ever produced. There were 24 marks throughout the Spitfire’s history and the Royal Air Force is still accepting Mk Vs.
6,487 Vs were produced during the war — the most of any Spitfire model. Spitfires with the new “C” wing begin appearing in October 1941. “A” wings held eight .303 inch Browning Mk II machineguns; “B” wings carried four Browning Mk IIs and two 20-mm Hispano Mk II cannons; the “C” — or universal — wing either carried four 20 mm cannons or two cannons and four machineguns.
