The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the SILVER STAR MEDAL posthumously to
TECHNICAL SERGEANT ROBERT A. BELET,
USMC.,
for service as set forth in the following
CITATION:
“For heroism and extraordinary achievement while serving with the First Marine Division during operations against enemy Japanese forces on Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, on the night of August 9-10, 1942.With utter disregard for his own personal safety, Technical Sergeant Belet, in the face of persistent enemy fire, skillfully directed the repairing of a critical wire line. His efficient and courageous leadership was an inspiration to his men and aided materially in reestablishing communication over this vital circuit. His initiative, perseverance, and unswerving loyalty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.”
