Vought FU-1

The San Diego-based Fighter Squadron 2B (VF-2B) flew the Vought FU-1, which could either operate on aircraft carriers with landing gear fitted or be catapulted off battleships by attaching a float. These biplanes used the nine-cylinder Wright R-790 Whirlwind engine, which also powered Charles Lindbergh’s Spirit of St. Louis and the Ford Tri-Motor.
