Guadalcanal’s Henderson Field is pictured on page three. The air strip is named after Maj. Lofton Henderson, the commanding officer of Marine Scout Bomber Squadron 241 (VMSB-241), who was killed in the Battle of Midway.

Six months to the day after the Doolittle Raid, Capt. Robert F. Gray is killed near Assum, India on a bombing mission. Gray flew B-25 #40-2270, which he named Whiskey Pete after his horse. Robert Gray Air Force Base will be named in honor of the Kileen, Texas native.
