The St. Louis Cardinals have beaten the New York Giants to win the 1942 World Series… Mentioned on page eight is Lt. Stanley M. Anderson, a former Royal Air Force Eagle Squadron pilot now flying for the Army Air Corps who had a share in busting four German Focke-Wulf 190s. Along with Capt. Richard D. McMinn (pictured below), they are 4th Fighter Group’s first combat casualties in a P-47 Thunderbolt when they are shot down over the North Sea on April 15, 1943…

Lt. Robert Boock, Lt. James Clarke, Capt. William T. O’Regan, Lt. Col. Chesley G. Peterson, Capt. McMinn, Capt. Anderson and Capt. Oscar Coen of the 4th Fighter Group with a Spitfire at Debden on 30 March 1943.

Sports section begins on page 13. Former Kansas Jayhawk back Dick Amerine, fresh from air combat over the jungles of Guadalcanal, will be attending the game against the Oklahoma Sooners later this month. Kansas upset Oklahoma twice within the last minute of play in their 1935 and 1937 meetings. In the ’37 contest, with just 15 seconds left on the clock and Oklahoma up 3-0, Amerine hauled in a pass and ran it 47 yards for the game-winning touchdown… 34 Days Adrift on a Raft continues on page 15
