Pictured on the front page is a Douglas C-54 Skymaster, the military version of the DC-4 airliner. The maiden flight of the C-54 was two days ago at Santa Monica. Harry S. Truman will use a specially modified C-54 as the first presidential aircraft, and Skymasters will do much of the flying during the Berlin Airlift…
Sports section begins on page 18… On page 20 we see that the Chicago Cubs are off to their spring training site on Catalina Island, off the California coast. Cubs owner William Wrigley Jr. built a field that matches the dimensions of Wrigley Field in Chicago and his team has trained on the island since the 1920s. With the military using Catalina throughout the war, the Cubs will probably relocate shortly. They do return to the island after the war, but move to their current site in Arizona in 1952.
