Duquesne finished their season undefeated by shutting out 13th-ranked Mississippi State. While not as well-known as the other ranked teams, the Dukes have the distinction of having the only coaches to simultaneously lead college and professional teams. Head coach Aldo Donelli and assistant Steve Sinko instruct the Pittsburgh Steelers during the day and return to the Duquesne campus in the afternoon.

Donelli scored four goals for the U.S. national team during their 1934 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Mexico and another when they were eliminated in the first round by Italy. Donelli will be enshrined in the U.S. National Soccer Hall of Fame. Sinko played three seasons for the NFL’s Boston Redskins. Both coaches join the Navy during the war and Sinko serves as an assistant coach for the Iowa Pre-Flight Seahawks. After the war he becomes Duquesne’s skipper, but leaves to coach with Donelli at Boston University…

Texas slid to No. 9 (down from No. 1 two weeks ago) after being upset 6-7 by Texas Christian University, while Texas A&M extends their undefeated streak by beating Rice. The Longhorns and Aggies will face off on Thanksgiving at College Station. This marks the 48th meeting of the rivals, with the Longhorns leading the series 29-15-4… The Iowa Hawkeyes managed to tie top-ranked Minnesota 13-13, forcing injured halfback Bruce Smith back into the game and the Floyd of Rosedale remains in Minnesota hands. The Golden Gophers have now won nine out of the last 10 contests against the Hawkeyes.
