SPOT YOUR PLANE — Hubert Mathieu. Evening star. (Washington, D.C.), 10 Nov. 1941.

From today’s newspaper: The Curtiss-Wright was built for export as an interceptor, serving the Chinese and Dutch fleet. They could out-climb Japanese “Oscar” and “Zero” fighters thanks in part to saving weight by not installing armor or sealing fuel tanks. The 21B wasn’t designed to dogfight the enemy though; it was designed to hit and run. Unfortunately, most were destroyed at the outset of the Pacific War.
