UPDATED: Medal of Honor recipient ordered to remove flagpole

Note: See update below.

Lawyers have ordered Col. Van T. Barfoot, a 90-year-old veteran of three wars and one of the country’s 93 living Medal of Honor recipients, to remove a flagpole from his front yard.

Col. Barfoot, who resides in the Sussex Square community in Henrico, Va., has until Friday to remove the flagpole.

Fortunately, help from all over the country has been pouring in.

America: We are now living in an era when a war hero cannot fly an American flag from his flagpole.

UPDATE: The homeowner’s association has dropped the lawsuit.

On another front today, U.S. Rep. Eric I. Cantor, R-7th. introduced a resolution in the House of Representatives resolving that any recipient of the Medal of Honor be permitted to “properly display” the flag from the recipient’s property.

That’s nice. But when there are only 93 living recipients of the Medal of Honor, 92 of which don’t seem to have flagpole issues, it seems more about the politician than the underlying issue.

America – we have come to the point when an American – let alone a Medal of Honor recipient – must fight a lawsuit in order to fly the U.S. flag. The question is: What are YOU going to do about it?
