The definition of Terrorism

From the Army Operations Field Manual:

terrorism
The calculated use of unlawful violence or threat of unlawful violence to inculcate fear; intended to coerce or to intimidate governments or societies in the pursuit of goals that are generally political, religious, or ideological.

Now, the attack at Fort Hood was both:

  1. A “calculated use of unlawful violence.”
  2. “Intended to coerce or intimidate” both our government and our society in the pursuit of Islamic religious goals.

Therefore, why does our media and government avoid calling it what it really is – terrorism?
