Frank R. Quinn Jr. Silver Star citation
The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the SILVER STAR MEDAL to
SERGEANT FRANK R. QUINN, JR.,
UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS
for service as set forth in the following
CITATION:
“For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a Squad Leader of Company I, Third Battalion, Twenty-seventh Marines, Fifth Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands, 14 March 1945. When his platoon was halted by heavy fire from a series of enemy emplacements, Sergeant Quinn repeatedly exposed himself to the intense fire to direct the fire of three tanks sent to support the platoon, thereby enabling our armor to destroy the emplacements and permit the infantry platoon to renew the advance. His courage, initiative and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service
For the president,
