- On February 21st, Avenger torpedo planes (Grumman TBF) and Dauntless dive bombers (Douglas), with Warhawk (Curtiss P-40) and Corsair (Vought F4U) escort, bombed Japanese positions at Munda on New Georgia Island. Fires were started in the target area. One U. S. fighter failed to return.
