for service as set forth in the following

CITATION:

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Sergeant Stanley Atlas McLeod (ASN: 6849363), United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with 19th Transportation Squadron, HAWAIIAN Air Force, in action against enemy forces during the Japanese attack on Hickam Field, Territory of Hawaii, 7 December 1941. Sergeant McLeod seized a submachine gun and taking a position in the open flying field without shelter, he continued firing upon attacking Japanese dive bombers until he was killed by a bomb fragment. The personal courage and zealous devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant McLeod on this occasion, at the cost of his life, have upheld the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
