Eric:

You posted earlier about starting a board/fourm as an easy way for your family to keep up with each other. That sounds like a great idea and I've been thinking about it ever since. I have five sisters and we live all over the place: Memphis (2), Little Rock, Nashville, St. Louis and Boise. We tend to communicate via passing emails, adding comments to them, and forwarding them to each other. Same with pictures, recipes, kid stories, etc. A family board may be fun.

Have you set your site up yet? How hard is it? Has it been well received?

I want to pick your brain a bit and may venture out and start something like that.

[Okay, you can stop laughing now Buddy and Squid. I didn't say I was going to do anything fancy. Just a simple single forum format. Not even any similies...since you know I have no idea how to add them.]

Thanks, Eric.

Mickey

PS Any job updates yet? Keep yer chin up!

I've got about 7 members now. Not too much action yet, but I hope to see some real "business" when the cousins and siblings start trickling in.

Setting it up was easy, but the InvisionFree stuff is a bit complicated. You should read up on forum management in the I.F. support forums.

There were some features I had to turn on (and others to turn off) to make administration easier on myself.

To tell ya the truth, I set this up originally just so I knew what I was talking about when Jelly Bean was busy administering the Door forum. I requested some stuff, but I did not know how to tell her about setting them up until I became my own admin and went through the steps.

It sat idle for about a year and now I've opened it up for membership. Once the family gets in there I'll lock it down to outsiders to keep the creeps from lurking.

Dan, over at the Door has offered to help me with some skins. It is the "look" of these things that I never seem to be able to focus on. I am far from creative, artistically speaking.

No job yet, but next week might pay off for me if everyone's calendars stay the way they are.

More to come......

Mickey have you ever tried a private chat room like MSN Messenger? Our family gets on everynight with each other for a hour. Everybody can be together and see what each is saying. Sure beats forwarded e-mails. Great way to keep in touch.

Thanks, Eric. I'm still toying with the idea and may actually start setting something up after we get back from spring break. We'll see. I don't need any of the bells and whistles, just the bare bones stuff. I was thinking about having either one forum, but then thought that a recipe exchange might be a good idea also.

Hondo:
Chat's a good idea, but since all of us have between 2-4 kids and live in 2 different time zones, finding a set time to chat may be a challenge. It'd be easier for me because, as the oldest, my kids are teens and pretty self-sufficient. My younger sisters still have newborns and toddlers, so they're in that crazy, out of control stage right now. But that'll be a great idea for the future. Thanks.
