I thought the religious threads were to be in the Cathedral section. If not, why have it?

That area is more of a Bible study/rational discussion area.
The threads in this section are "ruff and ready" arguments over dogma, apparently.

Since religion is life and we talk about matters that are alive--I see no reason to segregate such a vital topic. We do have the Breach lite area for more mundane topics. I have been assured on more than one occassion by the administators here that religion can be alive and well on the Breach forum.

If there are other topics you want discussed too--then in my opinion-- post them as a thread.

Do away with all the sub-forums and let's get this place moving again. Well, maybe the Ye Old Pasta Dishes could remain separate...... :)

I'm of the same opinion. If those posting can obey the forum rules, I see no reason for segregation of subjects to be discussed. In my new forum ventures that is exactly how I intend to proceed.

I will first point out that questions to the Administration should be in one of the Questions forums.

Then I will suggest that you read the guidelines for The Breach forum and the guidelines for The Cloisters forum. I think your question will be answered.

...Where a topic is placed is somewhat at the discretion of the original poster. This thread, for example, could be posted in the Cloisters, Breach Lite, or Breach. If the OP wants to ensure that the discussion remains civil, than he/she wouldn't post it in The Breach...'cause as we all know, that's a "ruff and ready" kinda place!

That's exactly the issue, Buddy. Questions should be in the questions forum, sub forums have different rules from the Breach, etc., etc., etc....

Simple is best.

It moves faster.

You don't have to click around all the forums to see what is going on.

The Admin Staff will be happy to listen to ideas but they need to be a bit more in depth than that. When we made the different forums we have today there was a long discussion with many ideas put forth. You really need to look at both sides to do a good evaluation of what needs to be done.

The reason I feel I discussion is enought is because there are not enough daily posters to keep the sub-forums alive. If we had hundreds of active posters, then certainly some would probably fan out to their own niches--but not when you have less than 25 regular posters.

I tried multiple sub-forums on the Neighborhood and found that they dilluted the activity to a point that few were bothering to participate in the sub-forums.

Now the main concern I see in having one discussion forum is that some members get offended by the posts of some less than civil members. However--I believe the ignore features can rectify that along with active moderation of those who don't get the multiple hints, In fact--in the administration area you can require that all posts of troublemakers be reviewed prior to being posted.

I would rather have one forum with all the variety of topics at my fingertips and displayed in front of me. If, for example I don't like religious topics--then I certainly don't have to click on the thread. I believe that certain types of subjects come and go as the mood of the members and news events change. A tight knit group as we once had at the "Fire" felt more like a community as we all participated and interacted with each other.

On the Open Door there is one forum. After a year of experience,Moolah has been able to keep civility in play and used a firm hand whenever it became necessary. On the American Patriot/Neighborhood we have three forums. The Neighborhood will never have sub-forums of its own. I simply don't believe it is necessary any longer. But this is my opinion.

Each web site has it's own way of doing things. We are always open to ideas to improve things here at Unto The Breach. I do go to other forums, mostly the Open Door to see what others might have to say. I used to go to The Neighborhood, but it is now past history, sorry to say. I do check in now and then at RV.net to see what might be happening regarding Class C motorhomes or new problems or answers to same. But we all have the right to go where we want to read and post and none are the same, thank God, or it would be very boring.

I will continue to look for further suggestions that might improve Unto The Breach, but we are what we are and not what other forums are. I like the seperate forums, though I read all of them, if one doesn't want to read one of them, that was the purpose of in setting it up that way. Any suggestions for improvement will be taken up in the Admin Forum for review and we welcome all suggestions...

The problem as I see it is that the posters are not adhering to the structure that is set forth by the admin team and there is no move to correct that. Remove the structure and there is no problem. All posts will be there for us to read or ignore.

Fr. Mike,

While we don't have hundreds of regular posters we do have more than 25. Wasn't it you which complained to another member about the language they used on one of your topics in 'The Breach'?

The Administrators are routinely accused of over moderation already. We, Admins, have voted several times that we do not want to use the review posts before they can be seen on the board feature. That is much to much like babysitting.

Jim,

How do you see the posters are not adhering to the structure? I assume you mean the religious topics but the reasons for that has already been explained. Is there somthing else?

BTW - I am not arguing, I want this to be a free discussion and I wish more people would join in.

I would prefer a single forum. My original problem was with posters who cannot maintain a sense of decorum when posting, having to resort to obscenities and personal attacks on other posters. I am on a very slow dial-up modem, and simply cannot take the time to check each of the fora.

As to numbers, my AF group has over 700 members and we have a single forum. On that forum, I automatically by-pass certain members due to past conduct.

Jim, I hope you don't mind that I changed the title slightly so people would know what it is about and then pined it so it would stay at the top of the forum.
