Quote

and like living stones be yourselves built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2:5 (RSV)

Christ is the foundation of His church. He makes it clear that he has started a spiritual house and we are to be a part of that. We are to be an integral part of His church. We are called to be holy and a priest or preacher. What offerings are you making to God? Yes. that is plural and continual. Are you giving of your best and finest or holding that for yourself? What will God think of your sacrifices?

I am a member of a royal priesthood.

Quote

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9 (ESV)

We stand in His light and as a member of His holy priesthood, we need to proclaim the excellencies of Him. What great things He has and is doing in our lives!!

Thank you Dan. It's amazing what God has done! I read "each time someone trusts Christ, another stone is quarried out of the pit of sin and cemented by grace into the building". What a glorious privilege and honor it is to be His people!

I know I do not post enough but I will keep trying. "Who I am in Christ" is a favorite topic of mine. We always here the dos and don'ts but it is who we are and who we are becoming that makes us really Christian. We should always be encouraged to know who/what we are and what we are called for. It won't all be out of 1 Peter, either.

I am a share holder in Christ.

Quote

For we share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. Hebrews 3:14 (ESV)

This world can tear at us. We need to understand that each of us stands in Christ. He is our strength, our guide, our example and therefore our confidence. Interesting that the word original precedes confidence. Christians in there testimonies often reflect on the burden that is lifted and the new sight and life given at the moment of accepting Christ. This is perpetuated every day we walk in Christ but I will always remember the burden lifted and the confidence Christ gave me to walk as one of His that first moment I confessed my sin to him. We should always stay confident in Him who has begun a good work in us,

I am a Child of light.

Christ let us know that the Father is light. If you have seen Christ, you have seen the Father. The Father cannot have sin (or darkness) in His presence. Christ made it plain that he is "the Way, the Truth and the Light. No one comes to the Father but through Christ.

Quote

For you are all children£ of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. 1 Thessalonians 5:5 (ESV)

Paul wanted all Christians to know that through their faith and Christ's Grace we are all (clean renewed) children of light. Without faith in Christ and His Grace, we would still be in darkness. We are children of God and as the Prodigal Son, we are welcome in his presence. We will one day stand physically, transformed, in the presence, in His shining Glory.

I am chosen, holy and beloved

Quote

Colossians 3: 12As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. 13Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord* has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful. 16Let the word of Christ* dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God.* 17And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Not only are we chosen but then we are told what to put on or be. You can read so I won't repeat it. How does God choose us? That is a rather simple one.

Quote

John 1: 10He was in the world, and the world came into being through him; yet the world did not know him. 11He came to what was his own,* and his own people did not accept him. 12But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God, 13who were born, not of blood or of the will of the flesh or of the will of man, but of God.

All who received Him. All who believe in Him. All who are born of God.
1 Cor. 16:14 Let all that ye do be done in love.

I want to pass on something from "Our Daily Bread." It is right in line with the theme of this topic. I will do some paraphrasing and use some of the scripture used.

I am finite.
(Take a break)

Fortunately there are many Christians that will shoulder everything and never back down. That is great support but can end in disaster for a church. First, let me say that no church should ever be solely dependent on their Pastor or Elders, for survival or growth. If that is the case, then that church, as an entire body is not healthy. That means that many are not taking up their cross and relying on others to carry their burden. Every member of a church should be involved. God has work for each of us.

Now, for those that do shoulder large burdens, let me say that it is OK to take a break. Just as an athlete knows, you want to push the body to do more but their is an immediate limit and an accumulative limit. Christians need to accept that there are physical, emotional and spiritual limits. Christians shoould be contientios and seek what God has for them but should also take a break.

Examples of this start as early as in the Creation. God did not rest on the seventh day because he needed it. God set us an example. That example does not just come with a weekend retreat and study. Everyone has a saturation point and some have healthy or unhealthy was to handle the stress and pressures that come with serving the Lord. Moses' father-in-law knew and saw this.

Quote

Exodus 18:13The next day Moses sat to judge the people, and the people stood around Moses from morning till evening. 14When Moses’ father-in-law saw all that he was doing for the people, he said, “What is this that you are doing for the people? Why do you sit alone, and all the people stand around you from morning till evening?” 15And Moses said to his father-in-law, “Because the people come to me to inquire of God; 16when they have a dispute, they come to me and I decide between one person and another, and I make them know the statutes of God and his laws.” 17Moses’ father-in-law said to him, “What you are doing is not good.
18You and the people with you will certainly wear yourselves out, for the thing is too heavy for you. You are not able to do it alone. 19Now obey my voice; I will give you advice, and God be with you! You shall represent the people before God and bring their cases to God, 20and you shall warn them about the statutes and the laws, and make them know the way in which they must walk and what they must do. 21Moreover, look for able men from all the people, men who fear God, who are trustworthy and hate a bribe, and place such men over the people as chiefs of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens. 22And let them judge the people at all times. Every great matter they shall bring to you, but any small matter they shall decide themselves. So it will be easier for you, and they will bear the burden with you. 23If you do this, God will direct you, you will be able to endure, and all this people also will go to their place in peace.” 24So Moses listened to the voice of his father-in-law and did all that he had said. 25Moses chose able men out of all Israel and made them heads over the people, chiefs of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens. 26And they judged the people at all times. Any hard case they brought to Moses, but any small matter they decided themselves. 27Then Moses let his father-in-law depart, and he went away to his own country.

letting others take responsibility while you rejuvenate, is also a tool for developing more mature Christians. While taking on more than you can handle will eventually lead to disaster, delegating and overseaing events and programs is a great way to shift some of the stress and again, allowing other Christians to mature in their service. Some Christians need to learn to rely on others, also.
