I see where the Chevy Volt is going to cost $41,000 according to GM. Whereas the equivalent Chevy gas motor vehicle costs $17,000.

Lets see now, how much gas can I buy for the difference?

Here is another question. How many of the other gas motor vehicles can I buy for $41,000?

Can you imagine a young mother with a baby on her hip and a 2 year old hanging on her skirt looking at a Volt with room for only 4 people and no trunk? Think about it. If you have ever had children it will come to you. With a price tag of $41,000?

I must be naïve, just do not understand how GM believes they can market enough of this car to make it profitable.

This Is What A Colossal Failure Looks Like.

See that? That’s the Chevy Volt. And according to this New York Times review of it, it’s about the biggest waste of taxpayer money since that “job saving stimulus.” <– I could hardly write that without snorting.

The Volt costs $41,000, which is obviously a big ole pile of money. It’s an even bigger pile of money when you realize the JUNK that you get in return for it. But the upside? You get a $7500 tax credit if you buy one. Because if you do that, ostensibly it makes Obama look like less of a moron for ignoring his own task force which told him that Volt “will likely be too expensive to be commercially successful in the short term.”

The Volt gets 40 miles on one battery charge. FORTY MILES. After that, it creates its own energy with a GAS engine. It’s a gas engine, mind you, that requires premium gas. And the Volt only seats four people (what with the battery running down the center of the car and whatnot), and according to the source, has less head and legroom than the non-electric version of itself (the $17k Cruze). Don’t you just totally want to run out right now and buy one? I mean, who WOULDN’T want a car that costs $41k but has the space and amenities of a $17k car?

The source article provides some perspective about just how much this pile of garbage has cost all of us. It explains, “Start with the $50 billion bailout (without which none of this would have been necessary), add $240 million in Energy Department grants doled out to G.M. last summer, $150 million in federal money to the Volt’s Korean battery supplier, up to $1.5 billion in tax breaks for purchasers and other consumer incentives, and some significant portion of the $14 billion loan G.M. got in 2008 for “retooling” its plants, and you’ve got some idea of how much taxpayer cash is built into every Volt.” Brilliant!

Let’s not forget, that electric or battery-powered cars like the Volt, which have to be plugged in to recharge? YOU ARE PLUGGING THEM INTO AN ELECTRIC OUTLET. Where might that electricity come from, praytell? Yeah. This is how stupid “green” initiatives like this are.

The article closed perfectly: “If G.M. were honest, it would market the car as a personal donation for, and vote of confidence in, the auto bailout.” Yup. The only people stupid enough to buy this piece of junk are rich, elite leftists who will Actually Believe they are helping Obama and the environment by doing it.

The Chevy Volt is nothing more than emblematic of the notion that anything, I mean ANYTHING the government sets its grubby little fingers on is ultimately destined to be a nonproductive piece of manure.

The Federal Government owns the company and decided who would be the head of the company.

"The source article provides some perspective about just how much this pile of garbage has cost all of us."

After reading those bad critics of the Volt , was the Government through the head of the company expected to stop that project?
I`m just trying to find out why the Government is blamed...

Besides that, I also think the Volt isn`t the perfect solution, but it`s a step into the right direction.
Is there any car on the automarket today which would meet the needs of being independent from oil and relatively cheap for the buyer? I dont think so, no one has found a car yet which goes without the use of crude oil and is pricey. All the automakers started way too late to turn their look into the future without oil.:yeahright:

It is widely known that the Government forced GM to put this car out before it's time using Tax Payers money to pay for it's development. Why should Tax Payers pay for something like this? It is nothing more than more social engineering by the government.
