PRESENTED TO
MAJOR RALPH L. KUSTER JR.

CITATION:

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major Ralph L. Kuster, Jr. (AFSN: FR-47491), United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force as a member of the 469th Tactical Fighter Squadron, in action over North Vietnam on 3 June 1967. On that date, Major Kuster was a member of a flight of F-105 Thunderchiefs on a strike against a vital highway bridge near Hanoi. After penetrating the intense flak and delivering his bombs on the target, Major Kuster again jeopardized his life by attacking and destroying a MiG that threatened the remainder of the strike force. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Major Kuster has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

Also awarded five Distinguished Flying Crosses, nine Air Medals, and the Purple Heart
